bom dia lisboa

where the everyday sidewalk is a work of art
crafted from tiny mismatched tiles.

if you’re foreign to walking a city of hills, be careful packing any cute shoe (especially those sambas).

a shoe with tread is your trustworthy friend. (these Adidas SL 72 OG did the job on comfort and style - even in the rain)

Portuguese pastel de nata

no trip to Lisbon is complete without pastéis de nata

my take on the best sweet pastry with egg custard and a sprinkle of cinnamon and powder sugar?

  1. Pastéis de Belém

  2. Manteigaria

  3. the closest coffee or pastry shop

the hype is real and don’t let the line turn you away —
the line at Pastéis de Belém moves quick and is for only for takeaway. so if you want to dine in the establishment, you’ll wait in another line.

of course, I am no local and I’m sure there are other local shops with an equal or even better pastel de nata — perhaps I’ll find one next time.
suggestions are always welcome.

Pastéis de Belém is only a short drive, a nice bike ride, or a quick and cheap uber ride away from Alfama or Bairro Alto or anywhere in Lisbon center - plus it's in a beautiful part of the city next to Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and the botanical gardens.

in central Lisbon, Manteigaria hit the spot after an evening of sampling traditional Portuguese foods with a local AirBnB guide (highly recommend and so fun).
